Indira Gandhi Culture Centre, High Commission of India in Dhaka, in association with local cultural organisation Noibedyo, is jointly organising an event of musical presentation titled An Evening of Rabindra Sangeet by eminent vocalists Jayati Chakraborty from India and Azizur Rahman Tuhin from Bangladesh.
The event is scheduled to be held at 6:30pm on 29 June at the cultural centre’s Gulshan-1 auditorium in the capital.
Jayati Chakraborty had trained under stalwarts like Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, Supriya Ghosh, Sambhunath Mukherjee, Sanatan Bandopadhyay, Subhankar Banerjee, Subhas Chowdhury, Jatileswar Mukherjee and Late Biman Mukherjee while commenced her musical career at the tender age of 5. Jayati subsequently released her first music album, comprising modern Bangla songs, Doorer Pari in 2002 and immediately followed it up with another album release with Bangla band Eklabya in the same year. Other music albums released by her include E Hridoy, Megher Badi, Ei to Ami, Tomaro Ashime, Akasher Nir, Ke Jabi, Smaran, Anandasandhya, etc.
Jayati Chakraborty is a lead singer for several tele-serials and tele-films in India and has lent her voice as a play back singer to several Bangla films having worked under renowned music directors, including Chiradip Dasgupta, Joy Sarkar, Prabuddha Banerjee, Srikanto Acharya, Debashish Ganguli, Kalyan Sen Barat, Rupankar, Samir Chattopadhyay, Tapan Sinha, Pintu Bhattacharya, Tony Bose, Soumya Bose, Kanchan Banerjee, Anindya and Pandit Ajoy.
She has also participated as a judge in prestigious music competitions like Dover Lane Music Conference, Sa-Re-Ga-Ma-Pa and such.
Jayati has toured extensively abroad as she performed in London as part of Biletey Rabipronam 2010 in USA, as part of the North American Bangali Conference in 2009 and 2011. He visited Canada and Bangladesh. She is also the proud recipient of several national and state awards for music in India.
Azizur Rahman Tuhin, currently being a teacher and an executive body member of the noted Bangladeshi cultural organisation, Shurer Dhara and a part-time faculty member of the Department of Music, Dhaka University, is an ‘A’ Grade artiste of BTV and a special grade artiste of Bangladesh Betar (Radio Bangldesh). Apart from these, Tuhin regularly performs in satellite channels of Bangladesh and India.
Tuhin completed his B.Mus and M.Mus in Rabindra Sangeet from the prestigious Visva Bharati University in Shantiniketan during the 90s and also worked as the head of the Department of Rabindra Sangeet at the Chhayanaut Sangeet Vidyayatan in Dhaka.
He has released several music albums on Tagore songs titled Gane Tomar Porosh Khani (2002), Akash Ami Bhorbo Gane (2007), Jagoroner Gaan (2009), Fera (2010), Troyee (2010). Tuhin’s latest music album Shunibo Praner Srobone was released by Laser Vision in October last year.
