Drowning is a leading cause of death in Bangladesh but remains as the most neglected public health issue. The Centre for Injury Prevention & Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB), one of the leading public health research organizations in the world, among other interventions has been implementing advocacy initiatives called BHASA and SeaSafe in collaboration with Director General of Health Services (DGHS), Bangladesh and supports from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), UK.

The aim of the project is to reduce the number of boys and girls who fatally drown in the Barishal division through the effective implementation of the drowning prevention strategy developed during the Phase-I. The SeaSafe project is being implemented in Cox`s Bazar to save lives on the beaches and in-land through lifeguard services for the last five years. The Phase II of project BHASA and SeaSafe have been designed around scaling up the tested intervention of drowning prevention by influencing and communicating the knowledge and evidence through advocacy and communication. Accordingly, CIPRB has designed interventions under SeaSafe and BHASA engaging government, community leaders, CSOs and NGOs into drowning prevention with a view to scaling up the model through influence towards sustainability.
